*** Pamper day for beautiful BROOKE ***

Brooke and I decided that after such a wet Summer, winter, Spring and Summer again we needed a little professional grooming help! Brooke's super coat had become a little neglected, time for a pamper day!

This is not something the shelter can afford on a regular basis, normally a bath in the tub must suffice unfortunately.

Brooks pamper day was funded by a lovely lady in our village who gave us 25 Euros (for the shelter).

Brook was a little timid walking from the car to Kozani Dogs (in the middle of Kozani town) but was an absolute dream while being groomed. Such a good girl! 💗 We also popped into see Tasso who fixed the tablet for us where she had a little walk by herself looking around his shop, she liked it there !
If anyone would like to sponsor a PAMPER DAY for one of the shelter dogs please let me know, Brooke really enjoyed her bath, attention and look around the town. Wouldn't it be amazing if we could get more babies out and about plus a lovely bath !! Shelter babies will have a reduced price, we payed 30 Euros for Brooke today (her coat was a mess) and the groomer was lovely ☺️

BROOKE is looking for her forever family and will be ready for adoption as soon as she has been neutered & her health book is up to date so please contact us if you would like an application for adoption form.

Adoption application, home check and travel fees apply thank you.

Please help Compassion For Greek Paws find homes for Dylan & Tobias

Three pups and their mum were found abandoned on the edge of the main road on Thursday 18th July 2019. Amanda who runs the Compassion For Greek Paws shelter was heartbroken because her shelter is FULL and she does not have any room to take this little family in. She appealed for help from everyone she knew. A lady came forward and offered to foster one of the pups. So Amanda made the difficult decision of which pup to rescue knowing she was leaving the rest behind in great danger. She choose the smallest pup and named her Lady. She was found to have a temperature. Amanda appealed again for help and another kind lady came to the rescue of the two remaining pups offering to foster them for two months. The mum dog is still on the road being feed and cared for by Amanda daily as she has NOWHERE to put her in the shelter. She will be neutered as soon as it is possible to prevent any further litters.

The pups being fostered together are Dylan and Tobias (Toby) who only have a temporary foster home for TWO MONTHS. After the two months, what will happen to them as the shelter is FULL? Could you be part of the answer to their future welfare? We are looking for help to find permanent homes for these two beautiful boys. So how can YOU help? Ultimately we need people to want to adopt these pups and make them part of their family. However we realise that not everyone reading this will be looking for a dog BUT everyone reading this could HELP us find them a home. Please, please, please share, share and share again about these beautiful pups so that someone out there will see them and fall in love with them. There are homes for these two pups AND all the remaining 70+ dogs at the shelter but without your help who will know they even exist let alone need homes?
Whilst the shelter is at full capacity, it is impossible to rescue any more and so this desperate situation will continue to repeat itself again and again. For nearly four years Amanda has rescued every dog that has come across her path but she is only ONE person managing a shelter of over 70 dogs. She has reached full capacity. How much can one person cope with day in and day out? The adorable dogs at Compassion For Greek Paws need to be adopted to make room for all those pups that have to be turned away because there literally is no more room at the inn.

We have expanded our outreach on the internet starting with a Compassion For Greek Paws Facebook group (https://m.facebook.com/groups/448203758704838/) to a website (https://www.compassionforgreekpaws.com/), Facebook page (https://m.facebook.com/CompassionForGreekPaws/), blog (https://compassionforgreekpaws.blogspot.com/) and YouTube channel (https://m.youtube.com/cha…/UCQZnt2loGiVrcptk67tqYCQ/featured) and have plans to open an Instagram account. We can receive messages through email (compassion4greekpaws@gmail.com) or through Messenger (m.me/CompassionForGreekPaws). We are doing all we can to reach out to people, to make our presence known and to connect the dogs in our care with their forever loving families. Please help us to grow our audience because if no one sees the dogs or knows about the shelter then they will continue to arrive as pups and grow up as “shelter dogs” for the rest of their lives. The longer the dogs stay as residents at the shelter the more likely it is that Amanda will continue to have to make very tough, heartbreaking and extremely difficult decisions that take an emotional toll as she will have NO CHOICE other than to turn away dogs and pups in need and leave them to their fate.

Please become an active supporter of the shelter we need these two pups homed before the two months are up and we also need to make room for the future by seeing as many of our dogs being adopted as possible. Thank you.

Janie

Janie ~ She was starved almost to death, left with no water or food tied to a beam in a barn. When found Janie was taken directly to the vet, she couldn't eat due to starvation but in time she began to get strong again and after all she has been through is a wonderful, trusting, loving girl who loves a cuddle. Janie needs a loving home.

If you are interested in adopting Janie please contact us via email: compassion4greekpaws@gmail.com or via Messenger: m.me/CompassionForGreekPaws  thank you.

Buddy Foster Update

Guest post from Andi who is fostering Buddy.

Well it’s safe to say that Buddy has settled in, he is such a sweet and funny boy!

Currently his most favourite thing to do, is tipping all the toys out of the toy bucket (he’s also chewed the bucket!!) to systematically destroy (supervised of course!). Even the toughest Kong offering stands no chance with Bud!! We’re having a toy cull later to remove everything that is shredded, inside out (how does he do this??!!) or crushed! 🤣 New toys are on their way!!

The picture is Bud asleep on his toys, something which he also loves to do, this and play in the garden with his boxer friends.

It is so rewarding everyday watching him grow in confidence and seeing his personality really come out. Best thing we ever did! If you’re thinking about fostering, or adopting please please do, it not only gives one doggie a new life, but another a place at the shelter.

Thank you Compassion For Greek Paws and Amanda Maguire Deligianni you’re amazing 💙💙🐶

UTTERLY HEARTBROKEN/DESPERATE SITUATION.

Very sweet mother with her surviving 3 pups.

Mother has an injury behind the left shoulder, not infected and healing, the pups all have puppy mange.

They are all in danger of the road as it is the main road into a village near Amanda.

WE HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM, LEAVING THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS IN DANGER IS AGAINST EVERYTHING WE HAVE WORKED FOR!!.

WE HAVE NO SPACE, WE ARE FULL TO THE BRIM OF HEALTHY DOGS LOOKING FOR HOMES. PLEASE SHARE OUR POSTS AS WE ARE UNABLE TO RESCUE DUE TO NO SPACE.

Mother and her babies will be fed daily, treated for mange, worms, fleas and the super sweet loving mum will be neutered asap but they are on the street, they are practically living on an access rd to the village where hundreds of farm vehicles pass daily as the crops are harvested & the fields are ploughed.

If anyone can foster contact Amanda (compassion4greekpaws@gmail.com or m.me/CompassionForGreekPaws) AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE 😔
WE NEED A MIRACLE.

****Update*** The pups have been treated for mange and have been wormed, Mum (so sweet) has been wormed and also had flea etc treatment. The mum seems to understand the rd but the pups are following her.. . Someone has thrown them bones and there is a bowl with stale water near, I don't know if it is from the rain or someone had put it there, the bones could have been brought by their mum.. desperate situation.

Liberty

Guest post by Liberty's owner Sharon:

This is our fur baby Liberty, we first saw her when she was a week old on Compassion For Greek Paws Facebook group. She was dumped in a bag with her 3 siblings (Faith, Hope & Warrior - all adopted).

We had never had a dog in our family so this was a big decision for us. We went for it, and she arrived to us when she was 4 months old. BEST THING EVER

She has bought so much joy into our lives, these dogs that Amanda looks after know how fortunate they are to be found, cared and loved by this lady.

Please look as you might find the puppy or older dog for your family.

Liberty is 2 now, within a few days she had settled in , it feels like she's been part of our family for alot longer.

Greek Paws you are the best. Xxxx

Christy update

Christy the day we found her / Christy playing today.

Christy is adorable, funny, happy, loves to play and very sweet.

I have seen a huge difference in Christy in a very short space in time. The first couple of days she would wince and cry if you put your hand out to her & was terrified if I tried to pick her up however she looks for your hand now, for a cuddle and will invite you to play fetch. Adorable 💗

Christy will be looking for her forever home very soon.

Storm

Compassion For Greek Paws shelter was hit recently by a strong storm that caused damage to some of the fencing and pens. Thankfully no one was hurt and all the dogs are ok. This is a diary of the after effects as written by Amanda.

11 July 2019
After the storm..😔😢

The good news is all the shelter dogs are ok, a little subdued and we have a scratched nose. We have been fortunate really but the mess and damage is going to take a while to clean up and fix but we will get there thanks to YOU. Thank you for your support, donations and concern for our little ones.

STORM DAMAGE UPDATE We have been fortunate however the fencing on three pens has been blown inward and is at an angle, the cement kept them in place but the wind has bent the poles. I will need to get a work man in to get them back in place and put in support rods to make sure this doesn't happen again. Four of our plastic kennels (most of our kennels are brick or wood) are beyond repair so I will buy bricks and wood and build stronger kennels like the others with the donations that have come in, some of the shade netting is ripped, some is fixable some not. I still cant believe it hit us so quickly & with such force. I will keep you updated on the clean up process. Thank you all for your support xx

HERE WE GO WITH THE BIG FIX *
(UPDATED) - MATERIALS HAVE ARRIVED. HARRY IS HELPING FREE OF CHARGE AND JOANNA HAS COME IN ON HER DAY OFF. VERY EXITING !!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU X

Huge thank you to everyone who donated to the shelter after the freak storm caused havoc.
Support poles were bent causing the fencing to lean dangerously inward, our plastic kennels were thrown around & broken beyond repair (our wooden & brick kennels were strong and safe) Tarpaulins, shade netting and outer sheeting were torn from the support frames/fencing directly upward by swirling winds and dropped almost as suddenly in the pens and surrounding fields.
Materials were ordered yesterdays and will be delivered this morning.
  • 3 x pallets of thermal bricks.
  • Glue for thermal bricks.
  • 30 Planks for 4 x kennel roofing.
  • 2 x rolls of water proof Roof Gum.
  • Shade netting
  • Iron sheeting (lamrina)
  • Staple gun.
  • Nails.
Total cost 687 Euros, we have gone OVER our limit so please if you would still like to help us heal our shelter donations can still be sent to the link below. Thank you all for such a rapid response 💗💗💗💗

We are getting there, some of the shade nets are back up, Star-socks & Cuka (Kooka) have a NEW brick kennel and Alben, Polly, Zeke & Luna all have a new roof. Billie, Cleo, Bailey & Jessey have had their pen super cleaned and have gravel & sand down as their pen was water logged. Their new brick kennels will be put up asap when I can get the cement down for the base.
Rain stopped play unfortunately this evening and raining it is, another storm over head and a frightening one again 😔
Weather warnings were issued but we expected this tomorrow..
It was a fight against time today, we still have a way to go but thanks to our wonderful support we are getting there x

OOOHHHHHHH EARTH QQUAKE !!!!!
4.6 It started quite light but there was quite a force at the end. It is fascinating really how powerless we are against the strength of Mother nature, We have just about seen it all over the past months.. 😁😟🙃🤪
