NEWS Shelter update, THE BIG FIX 🥳

With temperatures staying more or less above freezing, just the odd night falling to -2 to -5 we have started the BIG FIX IT after the worst of the freezing weather.The dogs also had a great time helping & enjoyed the extra time in the run !!

Huge thank you to Hubby who gave us 100 euros for maintenance, filled the shelter van up with petrol and some bags of food.👏👏

We picked up some cement, gravel, fencing & wire on Saturday then spent Sunday 'fixing'. 😁
We hope to get all the FIXING done this coming week, if the weather permits we will then start the second leg of THE ROOF GOING UP !!!!!!!!!!

ANOTHER HUGE THANK YOU TO FRIENDS OF THE STRAY OF GREECE & THEIR LOYAL SUPPORTERS WHO ARE CHANGING THE LIVES OF THE STREET AND SHELTER DOGS IN GREECE. FRIENDS OF THE STRAYS OF GREECE HAVE DONATED 5000 EUROS TO KEEP THE SHELTER DOGS PROTECTED FROM THE EXTREME WEATHER THE DOGS DEAL WITH YEAR IN YEAR OUT.

OUR WEATHER IN THE MOUNTAINS IS EXTREME, THE SEASONS CHANGE DRAMATICALLY, STIFLING HEAT, BLAZING SUN UP TO 40 DEGS IN THE SUMMER AND FREEZING TEMPERATURES CAN DROP TO - 21 DURING THE WINTER FREEZE. PROTECTION IS OF THE UPMOST IMPORTANCE.

The roof we managed to erect before winter has changed living conditions at the shelter, a remarkable and noted difference so we are now READY weather permitting to start asap on the second side.
We would also love to be able to cover the two food stations in the shelter at the moment we can not store food there due to the weather, rain/snow melt/sun.

If we can raise a little extra it would make a huge difference. We would also like to build a substantial shade and warm shelter for the sheep dogs who live outside the shelter. They are very loyal dogs who protect the shelter and will stay by my side when the dark nights fall. It would be wonderful if we could give them the gift of a safe, warm & shaded area as a thank you 💖

Esmae ~ name meaning “esteemed, beloved”. She was found at the beginning of January 2019 at the side of a road near a cemetery. She is thought to be 3 months old when found so born approximately beginning of Oct 2018.

💖Meet beautiful Aurora 💖

Aurora was abandoned and had been wandering the streets for sometime before being found by the man pictured. The young dog was covered in dirt, mud & grass seeds. After taking her home and giving her a bath he found that the grey/black ball of dirt and grass seeds was actually a stunning girl with a amazing white & golden coat.

The man has asked us if we can find her a forever home, a home where she will be loved and won't have to be chained. The man is against dogs being on a chain but for her own safely SHORT TERM it is the only place to keep her.

The chain is very long and she has shade and cover however this is no life for her long term.
We will be taking her asap for a full health check, she will be vaccinated, microchipped & neutered however we have no space for her at the shelter so we are looking for someone who has time for training, someone who can open their hearts to her and give her the chance of the life she deserves.

I have personally met Aurora and she is strikingly beautiful and very happy to meet people.
Aurora is between 9- 12 months old, she is loving, playful,loves attention & treats 💖💖

💖💐Stunningly beautiful Lyndi (Neuter day) 💐💖

Lyndi one of 6 pups, Amy, Lottie (in foster UK), Aaron, Katie & Kiera (in shelter care) are now approximately 12 months old (born Feb 2019).

Lyndi is a rush of energy fuelled by all the love she has to give, she will dash up to you to make sure she gets in quick for a cuddle then is quite happy to run off to play.

Lyndi although energetic she is also quite a chilled young female who's favourite spot is watching the cows from the top of her kennel & sleeping. This stunning girl will relax and sleep during cuddle time, adorable.

Meet ROULIS (Rulis)

At just a year old, already suffering in silence.Rulis is having difficulty opening his eyes.The eyelashes are inverted in both eyes, they are growing inward not out. His right eye being worse.

Ruli is a very quiet, sweet natured boy who lives on the streets.

We have taken him to the vet for a full health check, he has been treated for fleas & parasites, vaccinated and microchipped. He has also had bloods taken and all is clear.

The shelter and our wonderful supporters have raised the finances necessary to cover the cost of the  corrective surgery for his eyes. Thank you to everyone who has donated.

The lady who is feeding him at the moment lives in Germany and she will be leaving soon. She has indicated that if his surgery can be arranged that she may be willing to take him back to Germany with her.

MEET THE NEW GIRL MADISON 💖
As the hunting season ends many dogs just like Madison are found thin, injured ABANDONED.

No longer any use to the hunters they are left to fend for themselves in a strange unknown place, far away from the 'home' they knew. Lost in a very unfriendly environment, they don't know who to run to or who to run from. They hunt around looking for food/water & most are stressed & confused.

Madison I found this morning after she had been spotted searching for food but was being moved on by locals.

Madison came over to me as soon as I called her, tail wagging but jumped as a man closed his car door so I slipped on the lead and led her to the car.

Off to the clinic we went, Madison was great in the car and I believe enjoyed meeting the vets who gave her treats and attention.

Maddison's blood revealed she has heart-worm so she has started her therapy as of today.
Tonight Madison is safe, she is in an isolation pen where she will stay for the duration of her treatment. She has eaten, had a long drink of water and has a cosy kennel full of blankets so she feels safe through her first night with us.

The treatment for heart worm is painful and severe so please keep Madison in your thought and wish her the very best outcome possible. Madison is a little gem & deserves a happy bright future x

🥰AARON neuter day 🥰

Adorable Aaron was neutered yesterday, all is well and he is back at the shelter waiting for his forever family to find him 😁

Aaron is very loving, shelter life isn't for him. He sits leaning on the fencing waiting for his turn for run & cuddle time. Once he has had a cuddle he will play and run, he is also a foodie 😂 he always pops back to see if it's dinner time yet.

Aaron, 30 kilos male, neutered, health book up to date, microchipped & is looking for his forever home.💖
