Beautiful Bonnie

Siblings Bonnie & Percy were found 8 June 2020 thought to be around 14 weeks old so born end Feb/beg Mar 2020. Bonnie is esitmated to grow into a large dog around 30 - 40kg.

Bonnie is a loving, alert and playful pup. She particularly enjoys the company of older dogs. She is very sociable and loves being around people. She is extremely affectionate and loves a cuddle. She is happy to play on her own and enjoys toys.

She is a more independent girl and can be left by herself. Unfortunately due to being abandoned as a pup she was left to fend for herself. This has left her protective of food which is something we are working on to stop. She will be best placed with children over 12.

Bonnie is a real delight and would benefit so much from being in a loving home as soon as possible while she is still a pup and not live her days in a shelter. Please consider giving this joyful girl a chance in a loving home. Thank you 💙

This pup is potentially a ‘Greek Shepherd’ mix. They are known for their loyalty, adoration and cuddly nature. However, they also are known to possibly have a ‘guarding instinct’. They were originally bred over the generations to guard herds of cattle and sheep from predators. Therefore, please be fully aware of this potential guarding trait that could be demonstrated as they get older. It is essential that you agree to training as soon as they are settled and inform us of the training school you intend to use. We recommend you become aware of what ‘guarding’ can look like in its early stages and require you to seek professional support if you notice it is being displayed. Not all Greek shepherd mix display guarding behaviour but if you notice it is early on, you can get the necessary support to prevent it. Thank you

If you are interested in adopting Bonnie please contact the shelter either via email: compassion4greekpaws@gmail.com or via Messenger: m.me/CompassionForGreekPaws thank you.

Christie - Transformed from Rescue Dog to Adopted Dog

Christie was rescued by Amanda on the 29 June 2019 and thought to have been around 2 years old. She was found very thin and tired next to the village church building. She looks like a Beagle/Pointer with a heart shaped marking on her head.

Christie - when found
Christie has a number tattooed in her ear so she may have been a farm dog but because of her soft, gentle nature wasn't good enough and 'thrown off ' the farm.  It is unknown how long she had been wondering and starving to death before Amanda found her. It is possible that Christie may have had pups at some point but we will never know for sure. If she hears puppies crying or making noises she is on alert, searching for where the noise is coming from.

Christie ~ at the shelter

This is how her adopted family describes Christie:

She was scared of the broom when she first came here. Christie is very gentle, loyal and very funny. Facial expressions and responses so very funny! Always searching for food, drives us mad!  We adopted her just before lockdown, after which we had to be vigilant because Christie loves nothing more than a toilet roll or box of tissues!!!! Oh my, was she in trouble! She has chewed several pairs of scissors, cuddly toys, hot water bottle covers, bedroom rug. She's a chew monster! She is scared of our 2 guinea pigs, one has bitten her on the nose, both guinea pigs have bitten her gorgeous ears.  She is a character, lovely gentle disposition one minute, mad as a hatter the next. We love her very much. And we love that we have given her a forever home.

Christie
I can tell Christie trusts and loves us now. Its taken a few months, I can see the confusion leaving her and replaced with trust.
We get waggy tails when we get home, and she paws at us for ages after!! She runs towards me and bypasses the rest of the family.
Christie moves herself into her harness when getting ready for walks! She knows what her lead is and now gets very excited.
Christie doesn't sleep in her bed in the evenings now, she lies on the settee next to us and takes up most of the room!!
She knows when I'm upset and follows me around, she loves me!
She knows how to play now, tennis balls are her favourite.
Christie has had her first holiday in Cornwall so she has happy new memories, as do we.
Christie has a place she can call home.
Christie's tail wags.
Christie is no longer a starved skeleton clinging on to life.
Christie knows she is loved, so much.
Christie knows all humans aren't the same anymore, some are kind and invite her into their pack.
Christie is here to stay.
Christie is 💘

Special thanks to Sarah F for sharing about her adorable Christie and for the wonderful photo of her with the rainbow light around her.

Leo the Lion!

Locals named him LEO.

LEO is living outside a small supermarket, we have wormed him and applied flea and tick treatment, the supermarket staff are feeding him however he is vulnerable and has no safe place or kennel to sleep in.

The shelter is full, we can not take him in at this point in time.

We will take Leo for bloods, vaccinations and neuter but what he really needs is a foster or forever home ASAP, we all know it is only a matter of time until he is injured, abused or poisoned.

Leo is male around 5 years old, cat, children, people friendly. He is calm, gentle, loving and quiet.
He deserves much better than this..

Leo needs our help, please share and let's find Leo a loving home where he will be safe and adored.

Handsome Hickory!

Hickory was unfortunately abandoned in a village near Compassion For Greek Paws shelter. He was sadly hit by car with such considerable force it knocked his hip out of the joint!
He must have been in considerable great pain yet when Amanda found him he was still wagging his tail bless him. What a courageous young boy.

Despite the hip joint coming out it was quickly manipulated back in by the vet and strapped up to fix. The vet has advised against any major surgery as he now runs, jumps, plays like any normal dog. He loves being active and running and is in no way impeded from his previous injury.

He is such an affectionate, loving young boy, full of love and wants to both give and receive cuddles. So much so, if allowed, he will stay and fall asleep on you not wanting to leave.

He absolutely loves people and other dogs and is such a friendly boy. Although he will pick up toys to play, if the option is a bit of extra love or toys, he will chose your love every time!

He is a very confident boy when out walking and out and about in general. He is medium size weighing approx 12-15kg.
He is bright, alert and will train well given the opportunity.

Hickory will make the most amazing, loving, fabulous addition to your family. Please consider having this young lad and give him the wonderful life he so deserves.

Thank you for considering this beautiful soul.

If you are interested in adopting Hickory (male) please contact the shelter either via email: compassionforgreekpaws@gmail.com or via Messenger: m.me/CompassionForGreekPaws thank you.

Update on Foster

Pup FOSTER update. 😔
Foster who was such a good boy at the clinic today NEEDS MAJOR SURGERY.

The top of his mouth has been smashed, his teeth have been crushed into his gums and top fixed jaw is broken& the roof of his mouth is super swollen.

This injury could only have been made by being hit or kicked with considerable force.

The 3 vets that examined him all agree that he must have been hit while his mouth was open, the jaw bone is broken, who could do this ?? This is not an injury from a car or something like, this injury has been inflicted with the intent to kill him.

The broken, dead bone has to be taken away and the infected gum needs to be removed. Foster will need to be fed from a tube from the side of his neck every 3 hrs for a week or more & be isolated to guard from infection.

We will not know the full extent of the damage, how much of his jaw can be saved or if we can save some of his teeth until tomorrow when the surgeon has scheduled him in for surgery.

This little fella did not deserve this but we are dedicated to making him as comfortable as possible. Please wish little FOSTER the very best, Surgery is scheduled for 1pm Greek Time 6/8/2020. Animal Land Clinic Kozani.

Feeling broken and so utterly disgusted by the human animal who did this to an innocent pup.
If you would like to help with the costs of Fosters surgery and after care please donate to the link below, it's going to be a long battle for Foster & I want to be able to give him the best care possible. Thank you Amanda C4GP's.

Young pup found with injuries

Shocking injuries for young pup!

I have named him Foster for now.

This beautiful pup was happily looking for food just 2 days ago. What happened to him in 2 days !?
Abandoned in my village then spotted by a wonderful young lady. He disappeared before she could pick him up and bring him to the shelter, found again this morning in serious pain and discomfort.

The injuries are mainly his upper jaw/teeth. We do not know what happened, it however seems obvious he has beed beaten (he is only around 3 months old!!)

What disgusting human animal could do this to an innocent soul. He was left all alone in a hostile environment. He was only looking for food and company!!

He has been given an antibiotic shot, been wormed and will be seen by the vet at 3 0'clock tomorrow afternoon. We do not know at this point if he will need corrective surgery or how deep the infection is.

Another adult dog has been shot (he is ok) and over 40 Cats have suddenly disappeared, the Police have been notified.

This evening he is as comfortable as possible and safe, update tomorrow afternoon.
