Pregnant Kokoni hit by a car

A beautiful, precious little Kokoni dog was hit by a car yesterday that didn't stop!

The pretty little kokoni was left at the side of the road, pregnant and unable to move, she was picked up by a lady who took her home and called Compassion For Greek Paws.

As you will be able to see in the X-rays the leg is broken in two places leaving the middle part floating.

You will also see she has been shot, there are 6 pellets that we can see on the leg X-rays, there could be more..

The leg is also very swollen in comparison to the good leg (shown).

She is now at the clinic, and will stay until Saturday morning when Amanda will be bringing her home for rest and recuperation.

The surgery is going to be very difficult one lasting 4 hrs plus. The leg will need to be wired and plated. It will take at least two months to heal and she will have to be isolated in a small pen for at least a month. A kind neighbour has space for her recovery where she can be watched day and night.

The awful, sad news is the pups will probably not survive. I am so sorry to give such sad news but I believe you should be told now. The reason being they have already been in a car accident and could be damaged from the car and or the pellets, mum is stressed and in pain plus her body could reject them knowing Mum needs all the calcium to heal. The vets advise is to abort to save Mum. 😔I have asked if there is a way to safe them without hurting the mum to do so.

Although the dog is in great pain and distress she has remained calm and loving, she buried her head in Amanda's arms today on the way to the clinic. It was as if she knew she was going to get better and was thankful. We have had amazing support in raising the necessary 400 euros for her surgery. We are very thankful to everyone who donated so quickly knowing the surgery was urgent especially with our vets leaving for vacation on Saturday afternoon it was now or never almost. We also thank our vets who although very busy leading up to their holidays have made space for this little dog and of course to the kind lady who alerted us after the accident. Thank you all so much for pulling together and helping so very quickly WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL, and are now looking forward to watching her recover happily with us and eventually find a safe loving home, THANK YOU x
